Color apps!!

Apps that make extensive use of color on the PalmIIIc
  • Aaron Ardiri's games - classic Game-and-Watch style games - Phire, Parashoot, etc
  • AtomSmash - yet another classic - BreakOut
  • Chrome - customize your handheld's color scheme.
  • Electron Hut - FreeCell, Sokoban, and Klondike
  • FireViewer - formerly ImageViewer, now supports color.
  • McColors - shows you all the available colors at various color depths.
  • PacMan - yep, you heard right.
  • Parens - Multi-function calculator: statistical, financial, unit conversion, time, trig, currency, weight/length and more
  • Seahorse games - Card games (mostly variations of solitaire)
  • Tim Smith - Galax and Froggy - more classics
Apps that use some color
  • Due Yesterday
  • Datebk4 - color is very useful, but you can live without it (if you don't have it/can't use it, that is).
  • LifeBalance - intelligent todo list. Makes priorities based on relative importance, effort, due date (urgency). It also has color pie charts showing what your desired goal categories versus actual accomplishment.

Utilities

Hacks (hacks are system extensions that extend the functionality of the PalmOS.)
  • SplashHack - When you reset a Palm, you see the Palm Computing Platform logo. SplashHack shows that when you power on the device....it's a companion to IDPalm, which lets you *edit* that screen.
  • Swipe - allows 7 extra pen strokes for invoking the backlight, graffiti help reference, device lock, and mroe, plus invokes DA's (Desk Accessories)
  • EasyLaunch - Allows you to launch apps by using penstrokes in the Graffiti area (like swipe), or by pressing buttons for varying lengths of time, or in combination.
  • SwitchHack - Switch between the current and last app, or the last 10. www.deskfree.com
  • McPhling - Similar to SwitchHack, but more configurable.
  • FitalyStamp - Graffiti area protector that gives you a keyboard designed for one finger typing.
  • PopMe! - one stroke access to BugMe
  • Hot Time - Sync the Palm's clock with your desktop's during a hotsync.
  • 3AlarmHack - Configure alarm prefs for different apps. Also acts as a nagger - don't answer your alarms, and it will continue to beep at you)
  • Silence - Set times for your Palm to be silent (no beeps, no alarms, etc)
  • MiddleCapsHack - write capital letters by writing them over the letter and number dividing line.
  • MenuHack - Simple Hack that lets you tap a title bar to bring the menu down (built-into OS 3.5)
  • FindIgnoreHack - set apps to be ignored during global Finds
  • AppHack - Launch applications with 2-button combinations of the hardware buttons.
  • ChronoHack - Display the time and date anywhere.
  • HotSync Reminder - tells you if your Palm hasn't been hotsynced in the last X hours/minutes/days.
  • LaunchMenu - App launcher, DA Launcher, get system info and turn off the palm (with locking) or soft-reset it.
  • Pop! - access commonly used strings of text from a popup menu.
  • TealEcho - This hack will show your pen tracks until you lift the stylus.
Launchers
  • Launch 'Em - Application launcher.
  • LaunchMenu - hack that allows you to launch apps with a stroke from the app button to the screen. Also lets you run desk accessories (DA's)
  • AppHack - run apps with a 2 button combination of hardware buttons
General utilities
  • AutoSync - set your Palm up to hotsync automatically at specified intervals.
  • IDPalm - burn a customized screen into your Palm's screen (see a sample)
  • DateBk4 - too many features to name.
  • HackMaster by DaggerWare - Manage "System hacks"
  • JFile - Database viewer
  • Pop! - Frequently used text blocks a keystroke away.
  • T-Map Map of the Boston T system - Tells you what route to take (transfers and stuff).
  • TealDoc For reading text files. Good for READMEs.

  • Palmac - A web site and e-mail discussion list for all things combining Mac and Palms.(2/3/02 Site home page seems to be dead and has been for quite some time.)
  • SyncBuddy Install/Delete and Backup Utility (For Mac) Saves time!! Updated Sept 2001 to support USB!!!
    • No need to HotSync just to install!
  • Personal Organizer (formerly Consultant) Desktop PIM that supplies conduit support on Mac
    • Requires the Conduit Manager of MacPac2
  • BackupBuddyNG for MacOS
    • Backs up ALL your files to your desktop. Separates files in Flash and deleted files so a restore isn't so messy.
